What are the rights of the copyright owner?

It is illegal for anyone to violate any of the rights provided by the copyright law to the owner of the copyright. The copyright owner may also authorize others to exercise these rights.

When you register a copyright, as the copyright owner you are granted certain exclusive legal rights including the exclusive right to:

  • Reproduce the work.
  • Prepare any derivative works based on your copyrighted work.
  • Distribute copies of the copyrighted work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or
    by rental, lease or lending.
  • Display or perform the copyrighted work publicly.
